Tritlington Reception
At Tritlington, our EYFS team is committed to providing children with a high-quality start to their education, nurturing the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to become successful lifelong learners. We have high expectations for every child and strive to ensure that all children are supported to achieve their individual potential.
We create a safe, nurturing and stimulating environment where children feel happy, valued and secure. Through carefully planned, purposeful experiences, we encourage children to explore, question, think critically and build on what they already know. Our curriculum is rich in books, language and opportunities to develop oracy, while also fostering independence, curiosity and a love of learning.
We recognise that strong partnerships with parents and families are central to children's success. By working closely together, we ensure that every child is understood, supported and given the best possible opportunities to let their individual light shine.
In a recent Ofsted inspection our Early Years provision was graded as Good.

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Curriculum
In the Foundation Stage, your child will be taught following the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework. This helps to support children's learning, development and welfare from birth to the age of five.

Our Foundation Stage (Nursery & Reception) has one classroom with an open-plan design, with doors that open for children to have direct access to the outdoor classroom. The environments are organised to ensure safe exploration and learning.

How will my child learn?
Children in the Early Years learn through a combination of short adult led activities and child initiated activities. The indoor and outdoor areas are resourced with materials to develop skills and learning. The children learn through playing and exploring, being active and by creative and critical thinking.
The children have daily phonic, literacy and maths sessions which follow the ethos of learning through play. Children regularly choose and discuss books with staff independently and in small groups.
How do we plan?
Our Early Years curriculum is carefully planned around the 17 Early Learning Goals, which children work towards throughout their Reception year. We recognise that every child develops at their own pace, so we provide experiences and learning opportunities that build on their individual starting points and support them in taking the next steps in their development.
Our planning is shaped by the children’s interests, experiences and developmental needs. We provide engaging topics, stories and activities that encourage children to explore, investigate and develop their knowledge and skills, while laying strong foundations for their future learning and preparing them for the subject-specific curriculum in Key Stage 1.
Reception Baseline Assessment: Information for parents
What is the Reception Baseline Assessment?
Within the first 6 weeks of starting in Reception class, all children will participate in the statutory reception baseline assessment (RBA). The purpose of the assessment is to provide the starting point for a new measure that will help parents understand how well schools support their pupils to progress between Reception and Year 6 (the end of Key Stage 2).
The RBA will provide an opportunity for your child to have valuable one-to-one time with their teacher at an early stage, so the teacher can get to know your child better. It will provide a helpful snapshot of where your child is when they enter reception, so they can be supported in the most appropriate way.
