At Tritlington every child is recognised as a unique individual and we aim to provide our children with unique learning experiences in a supportive, nurturing environment that equips them with the knowledge, skills and attitudes to succeed and achieve their full potential so that they can “let their light shine.”
We believe that childhood should be a happy, investigative and enquiring time in our lives, where there are no limits to curiosity and there is a thirst for new experiences and knowledge. We want our children to love everything about learning, to relish it and want more.
The core aims and values for our Church school are encapsulated in the words compassion, love, perseverance, friendship, courage and trust. These values embody our commitment to respond to the needs of our community and are the drivers that shape the implementation of our curriculum. They guide our pupils’ learning journey and inform the outcomes for them both personally and academically.
We have an aspirational curriculum which is broad and balanced and promotes high expectations across all subjects and key stages. Our curriculum is organised on a two year cycle throughout school. The curriculum has been tailored to include the children’s interests and consideration of our local context. It is planned carefully to address current priorities. Our curriculum gives our pupils an understanding of what life is like in our beautiful county of Northumberland, in Britain and in other parts of the world. We want our pupils, who come from a variety of backgrounds and have different needs, to have equal opportunities, to learn tolerance and respect and to have ambition.
The curriculum is planned and sequenced so that children combine the acquisition of knowledge and the progressive development of skills and vocabulary to create a purposeful learning journey. We have a sharp focus on reading from the very start of school to broaden and deepen vocabulary and improve oracy skills. We commit to providing additional and enriching experiences for children who struggle with reading so they catch up quickly and keep up.
Our bespoke curriculum has the National Curriculum at its heart and enriches the experiences of all children. We teach the children how to grow into positive, responsible people, who can work and cooperate with others while developing their knowledge, skills and cultural capital, so that they can achieve their true potential. The aim of our curriculum is for pupils to have the requisite skills to be successful, independent and motivated learners in readiness for their next stage of education.
We believe in collaboration and shared responsibility for the children across our partnership of schools, across all phases. To achieve this, we follow the principles of the Morpeth Partnership Curriculum Intent to ensure consistency and excellence for all our children.
At Tritlington our curriculum is underpinned by four key aims:

Every child a reader: A reading rich curriculum which promotes a love of reading, enhances learning, supports the development of communication skills and results in the acquisition of knowledge which is retained, so that pupils know more, remember more and learn more.

Being Good Citizens: We have a determination to develop the character of our pupils so that they have a well-rounded set of British Values that enable them to keep themselves safe and prepare them for life in the modern world. Our curriculum which celebrates difference, develops an understanding of right and wrong, and ensures pupils develop a strong moral compass.

A love for learning and being curious: Our curriculum is exciting and engaging and challenges pupils to think, question, problem solve and reason and offers hands-on experiences so that they can flourish, reach their potential and let their light shine.

Learning behaviours for success: Our curriculum encourages a Growth Mindset in pupils. We strive to nurture the learning behaviours that help our pupils to be effective learners: Resilience; Motivation; Being reflective; Creativity.
